About Us
Yahshi Bakes is an Oakland-based baking company founded in 2015 by Yahshimabet Sellassie at age 12. Yahshimabet is passionate about baking and sharing her love for fine cuisine which is greatly influenced by her Jamaican and Ethiopian roots.
She honors her heritage by incorporating traditional spices like cardamom, berbere, lemongrass, and ginger into her menu. Yahshimabet heard about the Kids Baking Championship from Cheryl Lew, owner of Montclair Baking, and encouraged her to apply for the Food Network competition.
She was only twelve years young but competed for eight rounds and landed the runner-up position in the series, gaining media attention worldwide. People began to request her products internationally, desperate to try Yahshi Bakes, "A Taste of Heaven." Now, at 18 years young, Yahshimabet is building a global brand that is organic, ethical, nourishing, and impactful.
